Martin Luther's 95 Theses On the Power of Indulgences was a major attack on the Church, but the fact that he defied Pope Leo X after having written these and other 'offensive' writings was what really got the gears moving (as far as the Reformation is concerned).
and
John Knox was involved in the Scotland aspect of the Reformation. There were a lot of people involved other than Luther and Calvin, though they could be cited as some of the more important ones.
This is basically where discrimination begins in America. Although there were not as many African American slaves as in the 1800s... People were descriminating against one another's religions. The Puritans hated the Quakers, the Catholics, the Jews, etc. It all starts here ... and then when the slave trade begins, race gets deeply involved and takes over the descrimination in America.
This definitely brought back memories...you did a good job on summing up the chapter...I don't really have much to add...Ann Hutchinson was the first person to be kicked out of a state for disagreeing with the church's beliefs (she didn't believe that people's actions had an effect on what happened to them after their death if the church was saying their lives were already predetermined).
What do you mean when you say that Martin Luther "took part in kaing America"? His teachings inspired the Reformation and influenced the doctrines and culture of the Lutheran and Protestant traditions. His work was closely connected to the end of the Middle Ages.

Martin luther's teachings had alot of impact on the strict puritanism which flourished in early america. without the teachings of luther, puritainism probably would have been different and seeing how puritans build america, america probably would have very diiferent to.
Why do you think the Puritans persecuted the Quakers? Was it because they were different or was it because they were scared that the Quakers would take some Puritans away?

i dont know what you mean by 'quakers would take some puritains away', but i think puritains mainly persecuted quakers because they were different and therefore wierd. quaker practices of 'anyone can speak in church' and not having a minister ( puritains thought god could only be reached through a minister), anyone could join the church (purtians were very elitest), and just they way they would shake in church which was just really weird madethem strange and different.
First Anglo-Powhatan war was in the Chesepeake area. Lord De La Warr used "Irish Tactics" against the natives such as burnig crops, raiding villiages, and stealing provisions. It ended in 1614 with the marriage of John Rolfe and Pocahontas.
What happened to Anne Hutchinson after she was banished and moved to Rhode Island?
All I found out about Anne Hutchinson after being excommunicated was that she moved to New York several years later and was later massacred by Indians along with her family. Thomas Hutchinson, one of her descendants, later became governor of Massachusetts.
Hutchinson may have been brought down because of her gender; other commentators have suggested that she fell victim to contemporary mores surrounding the role of women in Puritan society. (of the time) Hutchinson spoke her mind freely within the context of a male hierarchy unaccustomed to outspoken women, again considering the time period at hand. She welcomed men into her home, an unusual act in a Puritan society. She was one of a kind.
She is also to this day, the only woman to have cofounded an American colony, Rhode Island, with Roger Williams!! which alot of people probably know, but, it was my favorite Anne Hutchinson fact. ;]
