Thomas J. Watson President of the International Business Machines (IBM). He developed IBMs effective management style and turned it into one of the greatest selling organizations ever seen. The company was originally named the Computing Tabulating Recording Corporation (CTR) but he renamed it to IBM. Most of their business was in punch card tabulating machines, which were loaned out.

Thomas J. Watson Jr. took over the presidency of IBM after his father. Until the late 1950s the U.S. Air Force SAGE computerized tracking system accounted for more than half of IBMs computer sales. The company made little profit on these sales. He knew the company was becoming outdated and believed in the production of electronic computers. He hired electrical engineers by the hundreds and put them to work designing mainframe computers.

I decided to focus more on women in business instead of specific business leaders. The National Association of Business Owners is an organization in the US that started in 1975. The purpose was to network the women-owned businesses (about 10.6 million) and to provided mutual support, share resources, and to provide a voice to help shape economic and public policy.

For business leaders, I would include Political Machines.  They were the crooked political leaders who influenced factory businesses to cut the payments of their poor, immigrant employies who lived in the slums of NY.  They were quite into business.  People, such as Tweed, affected the lives of many people by embezzling* money from the City of NY and was then fired and thrown to jail, yet still relected as a city official.bleh
