Timeline for 1910-1920 1910- Boy Scouts were established in the US as a part of the Scout Movement to promotethe social welfare of young men. Halleys Comet is seen for the first time in 75 years. 1911- The Chinese Revolution starts and was successful in overthrowing the Manchu Dynasty and the Republic of China was established. Ernest Rutherford finds the structure of the atom and is dubbed the Father of nuclear physics.This is significant because this eventually lead to the development of the atomic bomb. Roald Amundsen makes the first successful trip to the South Pole. 1912- The Oreo cookie is first invented. The Titanic sinks killing 1500 passengers and was one of the biggest crashes in our worlds history. Woodrow Wilson was elected president after a long fought battle.He defeated Teddy Roosevelt and William Taft.He was the first Democrat elected between 1892 and 1932. 1913- The first crossword puzzle was created and it was an instant hit. Personal income tax is introduced in the US. Henry Ford creates the first assembly line and was able to make a car in 98 minutes because of the interchangeable parts.This was the first car made in America. 1914- Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated which precipitated the Austrian declaration of war and sparking WWI. The Panama Canal was officially opened after ten years of working on it, which was started by Teddy Roosevelt. WWI started when Archduke Ferdinand was shot and Austria wanted an explanation.They didnt receive one and things got out of hand.It eventually led to most European countries to be fighting within a matter of weeks. 1915- The Germans first used poisonous gas as a weapon.Every country in the war would later use this technique. The Lusitania was sunk by German U-boats, provoke neutral countries to turn against Germany and would be a reason that the US enters the war. 1916- 1917- The US enters WWI because of the German attacking the Lusitania and because Germany was threatening the US by going through Mexico. 1918- Daylight Saving Time was introduced for the first time. 1919- The Treaty of Versailles ends WWI and Veterans Day was created to remember the day the Great War ended.

1915-Southern Blacks begin migrating to northern cities when war industries seek employees; between 1910 and 1930 almost one million leave the South in what becomes known as the Great Migration.
After Franz Ferdinand was shot, war was instantly declared. The allied powers of Europe, including France, Russia, United Kingdom, and Italy was victorious over Austria-Hungary, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire.
Europe had been allied by a system of treaties. When one country declared war, another would declare war because they were allies. So basically everyone was involved, and later so was the US. This became the first GLOBAL war... in which many countries went to fight. Millions died.... Europe suffered most casualities.
In WWI the number of casualties was enormous. Russia lost 3,311,000 people, Germany lost 2,460,897, U.S lost 117,465, France lost 1,697,800, Italy lost 1,240,010, and the Ottoman Empire lost 5,000,000, Austria-Hungary lost 1,567,000, The U.K lost 994,138
