1930: National Socialist (Nazi) Party scores major gains in German elections. Stalin formally collectivizes Russian Farms and creates farm cooperatives. John Wexleys play The Last Mile opens in New York. The planet is Pluto discovered.

1931:EmpireStateBuilding is dedicated in New York City. Japan invades Manchuria.. Defending Prohibition, King County Sheriffs Department breaks down a 25-gallon still on Capitol Hill. The presidents Emergency Committee for Unemployment Relief claims 4 to 5 million unemployed. Wikersham Commission advises against the Repeal of the 18th Amendment.

1932: Franklin D. Roosevelt becomes president. Stalin launches purges in Communist Party which will eventually claim 8 to 10 million lives by starvation and execution. Japan takes control of Manchuria. U.S.S.R. signs non-aggression pact with Poland. Mussolini meets Pope Pius XI for the first time, mending the split between Fascists and Catholics. Hitler declared Nazi party candidate for presidential elections. French President Paul Doumer assassinated; succeeded by Albert Lebrun. The Lindbergh baby is found dead. Bonus Marchers begin arriving in Washington, D.C.

1933: Adolf Hitler becomes chancellor of Germany. Franklin Roosevelt inaugurated as president, launches New Deal reforms. Prohibition repealed with passage of 21st Amendment to U.S. Constitution.

1934: Hitler claims total power with death of President Hindenburg, assumes title of Fuhrer (leader) of Germany. President Roosevelt visits Northwest to launch construction of Bonneville and Grand Coulee Dams. Roosevelt asks for $10,500,000,000 to advance his recovery program for the next 18 months. Congress passes Gold Reserve Act, empowering the president to regulate the value of the U.S. dollar. Roosevelt signs the Farm Mortgage Refinancing Act, to help farmers pay their mortgages with easier credit terms.

1935: Hitler proclaims half-million-man German army. Amelia Earhart becomes the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean, from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California.League of Nations censures Germany's rearmament policy. Nazi government revokes German citizenship of Jews. Church of England officially condemns Nazi persecution of Jews. United States makes the Philippines a commonwealth.

1936: Hitler reoccupies the Rhineland. Roosevelt re-elected. Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Actreplaces Agricultural Adjustment Act.

1937:Japan invades China, Japanese troops occupy capital and conduct the "rape of Nanjing." President Roosevelt visits the Olympic Peninsula, favors a national park.Hitler formally abrogates the Treaty of Versailles.  

1938:Germany occupies Austria, Czechosolvakia dismembered by Munich pact. Legislation creating Olympic National Park is signed into law.Hitler announces support of Japan.

1939: Hitler and Stalin sign non-aggression pact. Germany invades Poland; Britain and France declare war on Germany. President Roosevelt presents the annual State of the Union address to Congress.

1940: President Franklin Roosevelt asks Congress for $1,800,000,000 for defense. Germans begin the construction of Auschwitz. Germany invades Denmark and Norway. Japan and the Soviet Union sign a neutrality pact.

I find it amazing that in only a couple of years we went from one World War to the reshaping of another World War in a matter of about 20 years.

Dec. 2, 1930- Great Depression- Herbert Hoover went before Congress and asked $150 public works program to help generate jobs and stimulate the economy.

he was kidnapped and murdered by bruno hauptmann. bruno claimed he was innocent but he was convicted and executed. the child is acctually still classifed as missing , since there are doubts about wheter the body that was identifeid was really the kid or not. much of the evidence in the case was a mess, and badly mishandled

1932 - When Radio City Music Hall opened at Christmas-time, it was the largest indoor theater in the world.
