I think that abortion should be legal. I also believe in pro-choice. I believe that having a child can affect your life in a big way, and if you aren't mature enough to handle it, or even can AFFORD to handle it, that you should have the choice to have an abortion. From what I have read online, I found out that it's actually not dangerous to have an abortion. Also, you can only get an abortion in the early stages of pregnancy, so the fetus isn't actually a person yet. The chances of dying during actual child birth are ten times higher than when you are getting an abortion. When getting an abortion you can get a pill to do it at your house by yourself, or you can have other different procedures at a hospital. Another good reason for legal abortion is, what if you are raped and you get pregnant, what are you supposed to do if it isn't legalized? Keep the baby of a rapist? I don't know, but I think that is a little messed up.
Personally, i feel that abortion being legal is a good thing, but its the choice of the woman. Its HER body, and its what SHE wants to do with it. I wont let someone tell me what to do with myself, nor will i try to make someone do something with THEMselves. If a woman has between $450-600 or $600-$6000 (depending on the point in pregnancy) to spend, and she makes the decision to have the abortion, more power to her. Its not really dangerous to have an abortion. There are several different medical procedures you can do in hospitals, as well as a pill that you can take and have the abortion in the privacy of your own home. The side-effects generally arent severe; the worst it gets from the hospital proceedures something that requires a minor surgery, and you can leave after like a day, and the pill can cause mild to severe cramping. Abortion being legal also helps women be safe. If they arent legal, people are gonna do it ILLEGALLY, and thats so much more dangerous. Thats all i have to say about that...
Gender Discussion Women should serve equally in the military.Several points of argument have been put forward by those in favor of women serving in combat conditions as well as those against the idea. Many of these arguments are focused on the physical differences between men and women, but also on differing mentalities, and the effects upon one sex by the presence of the other on the battlefield. Since very few countries employ a fully integrated military, there are few references able to prove or disprove the arguments below. Many view the exclusion of women from military combat jobs as the last bastion of sex discrimination. Some believe that women are forbidden to serve in these roles only as a result of the traditionalist view of soldiering as a profession for men and that the equal opportunity laws should apply to the military. Many point out that there are many historical examples of women achieving much on the battlefield in combat roles. One political argument made in favor of allowing women to occupy combat roles in the military is that it would allow the armed forces to recruit from a new population.
Another of the most obvious concerns regarding women in combat situations is the fact that, on average, female soldiers do not possess as great a physical strength and stamina as their male counterparts.
1) Abortion should be legalMy stand on abortion is I think it should be legal. I believe that women should have the choice to have an abortion or not. What I dont believe in is sex-selective abortion. Having an abortion should be based on the incapability to raise a child. If a woman is not ready to have a kid then I believe its okay for her to have an abortion. Also if a woman has been raped I believe it should be her right to abort the child. But what I don't agree with is if a woman gets an abortion based on the sex of the child.
I do belive in aborations. for variour reason because sometime it is just not the properar that, and if a kid cant take care of them selves why bring an inncoent life into this earth to suffer. NO one diserves to suffer and to be put on this earth to suffer. I do belive we are all gift s of god but there is time where we have to make an axseption. This child deserves the best and if we are not ready for this then maybe we should wait. Yes i do agree that it is wronge but why hurt this innicent child and bring him/ her into the earth have them not now there mother or now there mother but , think that there mother dosent care about them. I do belvie if you are not ready to be a mother do not take the responsiblity of hurting an innocent childs life. They have the right to have a good life at the right time. Time good and HArd it s wronge but what the ponit of bringing them to life if they are going to suffer .
I choose Abortion.I believe Abortion should be legal because women should be able to choose if they want to keep a child or not. The reason i feel this is way is because if a mother doesnt want to keep there child then i doubt that the childs life will be any good because the mother wouldnt want it to be there.Women should be able to choose what she wants in life and if shes not ready for a baby then i dont think she should be forced to have one because the law tells her to.Having a baby is a big step in life and if someones not ready for it they shouldnt have to do it .
Women should serve equally in the military I think that if women know that they can do all the basic training as the guys do then they should be able to serve in the military even though they can the males in the military go hard on the women because some of them dont want women there but women has proven them selves stronger in the past years so guys are more open minded now about the whole situation and the women have proven them selves alot so i think that we should have equal rights in the military if we are all equal in the US. not just by gender i think we should be judged by are performence.

I agree with you in this one they should be able to get an abortion if they know that its going to effect there lives in a big way like if they got rapped but i deffintly agree with you.

I believe abortion shouldnt be legal. Life begins at conception and aborting an embryo would be the equivalent of murder. Every person has the right to life and all other basic human principles, but the victim of an abortion doesnt have that privilege, cant speak on their own behalf, or defend their right to life. The mother may have control of her own body but in all seriousness, that isnt her body. Its a separate individual who deserves a chance. The child is absolutely helpless and that is immoral.
Honestly, I'm not sure where I stand on abortion. Personally, I don't believe in it, I always heard excuses "i'm not ready for a child", but you're ready to have sex? If you can't handle the responsibilites that come with having sex than maybe you shouldn't have sex, BUT on the other hand I can definately understand some points on pro-abortion. Unfortunately, some people who want children can't have them and some people who don't want children have them. It's not fair, but unfortunately that's how it goes. One part of abortion I can agree with is for parents who aren't ready to be parents. People who are not going to be good parents and the child has to suffer. Some parents end up killing their children, for example Andrea Yates drowned her 4 children, yesterday I read online a father was child with 1st degree murder when he left his 1 year old son in a car with temperatures over 80 degrees for hours. Almost everyday you could open the Standard Times or go online and find parents being held responsible or acussed of murdering their children. Whether it'd be by cough medicine (which was in recent headlines) or other means of death. Sometimes people don't end up killing their children they just end up being bad parents all-around, and they dont really take an interest in their children's lives. It's going to happen regardless, but my point is sometimes unwanted pregnancies leave people to do awful things like this. So I guess in an odd way to think about, sometimes you could be saving a baby's life not really taking it.

I think the most sad part of the situation is that the victim of an abortion has no right to speak, I agree with you 100%.

What about in the case of a rape? Do you still stand firm on your belief? I agree with you that abortion should not be legalized but i have reasons that i base on my faith and the fact that no matter how early in the life of the child it is still murder like you said. But i just wanted to know for my curiousity...would your mind or position change if a rape case was brought up?

There are alternatives to abortion. If you are unable to properly care for your infant adoption is definitely a viable option. One, you would be giving your child a chance to live, and second, you would make the lives of prospective adopting couples who are unable to have children.
Mr E...this is completely irrelevant to the assignment, but if you plan on showing another film at some point in this class, i highly suggest Blood Diamond, i just bought it the other day, and i couldn't help but think this would be a great movie for my C-period class to watch. It envolves slavery, war etc...and teaches a good moral. It really is the best movie i've seen in a long time and i'm positive you and the class will really enjoy it.(those who havn't seen it already that is)Get back to me and let me know how you feel about this idea.
Women have come a long way in the world all around us. But there is still much discrimination against women because of their sex. Its not that they are incapable of doing the job, but its just the fact that they are women. I strongly believe that women should get the equal opportunities as men in serving in the military. I was reading something on this issue in Wikipedia and it proved exactly my point that even though the world has come a long way in the issue of women, there are still many positions in the military that dont accept women to fight or take part in. The only countries that completely allow women to serve in the military are Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland. Many people dont think that women should serve because they dont have the stamina as men do and dont have the strength that men do. The truth is that women arent built as men are, we werent supposed to be built the same way but I do think that women should be given the chance. We are more than capable of being in combat as men are. Another reason I read that stops women from fully taking part in combat is because they are afraid that romantic relationships would get in the way of it. That is in one sense a possibility but I think that women that sign up for the army would be in the correct mindset and recognize that there is a time and place for that but when its time to work, its time to work. I dont think thats something that they should be worried about. But bottom line women can do it and we should be given that chance because by not giving us that chance they are basically contradicting the amendment that gives women rights. Not allowing us to take part in combat is limiting the rights that were bestowed upon women.
I think that abortion should be leaglized. I mean what if you are a teenaged girl and you are not ready to have a kid, mentally and financially. How are you suppose to support a little baby if you do not have the time and money to support yourself. Why do you want to bring a new life into the world and have them suffer , when you can get the abortion in the early stages of pregnancy so like that the fetus is not completely a person yet. That is why i think that it should be legal.

My position wouldnt change. The idea of rape is repulsive, as are those who engage in it, but that is no way the fault of a child who was conceived as a result of the act. That child shouldnt be born with a stigma. They shouldnt be put to rest for simply being what they are, what we all once were. Whether produced as a result of rape, incest, or intimacy, everyone deserves a chance to live, and no one on Earth has the right to strip them of that. If its to distressing for a mother to live with that child, my only advice is to give it up for adoption. But killing it isnt right. I think everyone can see that.

I definetly agree with him .. if your not old enough to handle the responsibility and the price don't have a baby. He makes a point about being raped. If someone is raped by someone and gets pregnant its not that persons fault .. they shouldnt have to have that baby for the rest of their lives because of some sick persons action. Thats messed up
I think abortion should be legal because if a person is not ready, older enough, mature enough, and financially ready they shouldn't be forced to have that baby even if they get pregnant. Sometimes accidents happen, and if your not ready to make that committment you should have the choice to decide what you want to do because its your life and nobody is going to raise that baby, but you. You have to think of all the senieros not just the joy of it. Especially the circumstances when young girls are getting raped and become pregnant. They should have that option having an abortion or keeping that child. Having a baby is a huge responsibility that will change the rest of your life.
Women should serve equally in the army. The constitution has set out the law that everyone should be treated equally. There is no reason for woman not to be out in battle. Reguardless of strength, there are more to the military than just that.
7) The rights of women should be internationally enforced in all countries.
I feel that the rights of women shouldnt just be enforced in a few countries in the world; it should be in every country. How is it fair that only in a few places, women can be treated as equals, while in other places they are treated just as things that give birth? Why cant all women have the same rights as men?We need to start showing other countries that women are human. We arent objects to be taken advantage of.In other countries, women are beaten, raped, brutally attacked, and completely degraded. Men are thought to be equal to higher powers.Women are only here to give birth, raise the children, and keep the men satisfied. We need to somehow change that way of thinking. All women deserve to be treated the way we are treated in America. All women need equal rights. In China, the revising and enforcement of Womens Rights has become a main priority. They even hold punishments for people who disregard the laws. If every country developed laws like this, then all women in the world will be held as equals and we will finally end the suffering of women in other countries.

I think the only reasons girls should be able to have abortions are rape, or if you know that child will have a bad life because of where the girl's life is at the time. I don't think it should be legal any other way. Like you said, if you're ready for sex, then you're ready to support a kid.
Along with majority of the class i'm also choosing abortion. I think Abortion should be illegal, in my eyes i see it as murder, and murder is is illegal, so why shouldn't abortion be.Besides, it's just wrong and coldblooded, it shouldn't matter if the baby dont feel the pain and dosn't know what's going on, it's just the principle of flushing a life down the drain. Sexual intercourse shouldn't take place without knowing it's consequences, so if you feel like your not responsible, not wealthy enough, not mature enough, or simply just not ready...you shouldn't have sex because you really never know 100% wheather or not your mate will get pregnant. All in all before you have sex,you should think of where you are in your life, think about the consequences and decide if you can accept them and still be happy in your life.
the only points that i'm against aportions for is the phrase "i just don't want one" that is screwed up... if you physically and mentally can care for a child and you can provide for a child, then you have no reason to just not want one. but there are other situations
RAPE--- how do you bring a child into the world when you found out it was conceived with a person who forced you to have sex with them.. and for the strong people who go through with the pregnancy, how do you look your child in the eye and explain to them "YOUR FATHER RAPED ME AND THATS HOW YOU CAME INTO THE WORLD" if that child is a girl, she would never trust men again for the rest of her life.
THE CHILD ISN'T GROWING--- "YOU COULD HAVE AN ABORTION, RISK A LATE PREGNANCY MISCARRIGE, RISK A STILLBORN, OR HAVE A CHILD WITH SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS" thats what they tell you... now think of this. you want to have the child. your happy that you're pregnant and 5 or 6 months into your pregnancy you have a miscarrige. how does that woman or that teenage girl feel? what does that do to someones life? and to have a stillborn. a stillborn is when you give birth to a child that is dead. imagine, you go through 9 months of have your child inside of you. your so excited, your due day is comming up and you can't wait to see how beautiful your child is, then right after you deliver your child, the doctor doesn't give the baby to you and they tell you the news.... HOW DOES THAT EFFECT THE WOMAN OR TEENAGE GIRL... HOW DOES THAT EFFECT ANY PERSON INCLUDING THE FATHER? and to have a child with serious health problems.. what if it's a female who is told this who works a part time job, the father is absent, and she can hardley fend for herself. how does she care for a child that is mentally or physically retarded? you can say what you want about this situation, but i know where i stand.
PRESSURE--- your a teenage girl still in high school, your getting a scholarship to a really good college, your parents are so proud of you, you've done good all your life, you miss your period. everyone had such high expectations for you. what would your family say? what would your friends say? would the kid who you had sex with be there for you and your baby?
AND FOR ADOPTION--- for the woman who are strong enough to go through a full pregnancy and feel the connection between you and your child growing inside of you, and you can go through labor and look in your babies eyes and give it to someone else... they are strong... a connection between a baby and the mother is one that no one can break...
and if it becomes illegal.. woman who are careless and don't want a kid will try everything to get rid of it... illegal abortions are still done in america with dirty utensils and the woman get sick and stuff... YOUR OPINION IS YOUR OPINION AND MINE IS FOR ABORTIONS TO STAY LEGAL.
i think abortion should stay legal because girls should have the right to have an abortion if thet need one for any reason because its their body, if it was my body i know no one can tell me what to do and i know theres more people out there that feel the same. even the women who dont belive in abortion can tell you its their body and no one should tell them what to do with their body and their life.if your old enough to have sex your old enough to make a decision of abortion for or against it.

i agree, and i saw some people were saying that you can put the child up for adoption, and that is true, but when you're a teenager you have to leave school for a while and then you have to deal with the drama when you go back and have people call you names because you were pregnant

Abortion should be leagal because of several reaons. technology has made it even easier to do it know requiring only a pill or shot it is also far less dangerouse then acutual child birth also if somthing happens and you are pregnant and you are not ready dont know what to do or cant afford it then it may be baetter that then child doesnt ecist than living a horrible life in a bad environment.

kevin: i agree if its her body it should be her decision and that negative attention from other people could destroy you.
I believe abortion should be legal. Although, I do not think it should be used as a method for birth control, I believe there are many sufficient reasons why it should legal. Like if a women is raped. That is an important reason to make it legal. Also, I believe if a young girl gets pregnant for the first time and doesnt want to have a baby then they should be able to have an abortion if they know they dont want the kid. Reality is some girls have the baby and instead of giving it up for adoption, they leave it somewhere or put it in a dumpster. This all could have been avoided if they could have received a safe legal abortion.I think it is better not to have the baby, then to have it and know you dont want it or cant afford it if your life at this time is unstable or you are too young.
When there was a draft for the past wars women never had to worry about getting drafted into the army. So women tried soooo hard to get equal rights but if they were equal why did they not get drafted? But women in the army kind of take a backseat jobs in the army. Such as medic or something like that. But They should be sent to the frontlines just like the males in the army. So if there is another draft in the future women should be in teh draft because itz not fair for the men to be drafted against there will and the women not have to.

Def. agree w/ you on the whole responsibility factor. Everyone knows the result with having sex and, since it's never definate someone will not be pregnant-the best way to avoid having a child would just be to refrain from having sex. I agree with you, good job!!
The Militaryis an Outstanding life for women.. They can do 99% of the jobs in the military just as well and sometimes better than men. All men are created equal and that means, all genders, all ethnicities, all nationalities etc. For example, Soviet women were front-line soldiers. One female sniper killed dozens of Germans.Women do very well in the military and should serve their country just as men. If you give your best and be proud and willing to serve and even give your life for this country, you should be inthe military.! The military teaches you discipline self-respect .
the only points that i'm against aportions for is the phrase "i just don't want one" that is screwed up... if you physically and mentally can care for a child and you can provide for a child, then you have no reason to just not want one. but there are other situations
YOUR OPINION IS YOUR OPINION AND MINE IS FOR ABORTIONS TO STAY LEGAL.
i opt for legal obortions too. Awesome points. =]
Rape: Like I said, if its that difficult for a mother, and she absolutely cannot stand the presence of her own flesh and blood give the child up for adoption. Why kill an innocent bystander, someone who had no volition to be the child of a rapist but by the forces of this Earth is. Give them a chance at life we all deserve. Second Point: A mother should care for her child whether its black, white, smart, or mentally ill. And if it is financially or physically impossible for her to care for the child, Im sure there are government asylums that would accept the infant. Pressure: This isnt a legitimate reason for an abortion if there ever was one. She decided to have sex and has to deal with the consequences. It really is quite simple; dont have sex, dont put yourself in that dilemma. It sounds like she screwed up, exactly what you said you didnt support.
Sexual violence should receive maximum prison sentences? i do believe that they should recieve maximum prison sentences because its considered rape! and no person should go through that,Its basically torturing someone. No one has the right to force themself apon another person. Its a crime against humanity and i belive it goes right along with killing someone because that person might never be the same, they lose all self respect. This can seriously harm someone physically aswell as mentally.

Tell me that you could carry a child, feel that connection with the baby, feel it grow inside of you and have it... you'll look in your babies eyes and if you have a heart you'd keep it. your a guy, you will never understand because you will never deliver a baby and you will never have the feeling of a child inside of you. tell your girl freind one day to not have sex with you if she doesn't want to have a baby... and if you do have sex with her, and she gets pregnant, tell her to give it up for adoption. i bet your stuck with a kid, if you were to stay around it's whole life any way... can i ask you a question... is it okay if a man leaves the woman he got pregnant alone to have her child alone and be a single mother forever.... is that okay to abandon her?

May I ask you something? Is it okay to kill the child?
If you feel that connection with a child, that much love and intimacy, why would you choose to kill it, because that's essentially what you're doing with abortion. You're right, it must be a terrible feeling to give up a child, but if you're asking me to choose between death and adoption, I choose adoption. If you're going to have sex, become impregnated, and decide you can't care for the infant, give it up for adoption. No matter how hard that may be it's better than killing it.
One other thing; what's with: "i bet your stuck with a kid, if you were to stay around it's whole life any way..."
7) The rights of women should be internationally enforced in all countries.
There are many countries around the world where women are treated unfairly. There are countries where it is legal to rape or beat a women, which is disgusting. It is a complete violation of human rights and it should not be tolerated. If the world knows about these crimes against women then it should not turn its back on these issues, it should work to punish those responsible for these violations and improve the conditions for women around the world. There are countless cases of honor killings in countries throughout Africa and the Middle East, in Syria last year the United Nations Development Fund for Women found that 1 in 4 women there suffers physical abuse, which is usually from a male relative. In many of these countries, if a man is convicted of a crime such as killing a women, he receives a very light sentence, especially if he can prove that it was done out of hope to preserve the familys honor. There are countries who claim they are trying to reform these laws, but actually very little is being done to stop these crimes. In Morocco, it was decided that if a woman killed a man then she would receive a light sentence, as a way of making their laws equal. That will do nothing to help women in these countries, they will still be beaten and killed just as much as they are now, because just making their sentence for the same crime lighter does not enforce their rights at all. Its horrible that we know about this and still there is so little being done to end it, the UN and human rights organizations should work to enforce the laws and find those who are responsible for crimes against women and give them the proper punishment for their crimes.

Valdir, you bring up some good points, that makes me think twice about my opinion on abortion.
1.Abortion. It should be legal. Its her choice. She should get to hold her future in her hands. Everyone makes mistakes and they should have a chance to fix them. Its not easy raising a child and its not right that someone doesnt want them to be able to have another option. Plus there is enough children in the workd enough orphans in the world and enough uncared for children in the world.

but do you think women have alot more needs that need to be kept up in order to do all jobs like if a girl got her pierod and had major cramps on front line of a war most likely she would get shot not being ablt to be quick enough to move like she would with out her pierod?.
I agree 100% with you. If a young girl has a baby and she has no job how is that benefitting the child? She would be a lot better getting an abortion and learning from her mistakes and live her life to teh fullest without having a baby waking her up everynight.

I agree with jaimie 100% its the womans choice. Its not right to tell a woman what they can do with their bodies.
