I believe class division is an inherent quality of capitalism. I think the system just doesnt allow enough prospects for the working class to increase their position in society when many have little wealth left over after living expenses. As well, those who are already well set off can put their children through college and bestow upon them hefty inheritances, widening the chasm between social classes. This shouldnt be the case. I think capitalism should be more tamed and allow for better class equality among American society.
Economic justice is defined as: fairness and equity in economic affairs, presumably by having laws, governments, and institutions that treat people equally and avoid favoring particular individuals or groups. I dont believe economic justice is viable in a capitalist system because of the discrepancy it creates between social classes. I think those in higher standings will always have the upper hand in economic affairs.
I think the mass media has a good hold on the way on the perception or of class division in American society. The media has the power to, and has, exploited classes; they can also help perpetuate stereotypes. And in a day where much of our society doesnt even have the courtesy to watch the news, a typical tabloid can be the only source of information. Were relying too much on what a camera lens shows us, rather than allowing ourselves to venture and discover the beauty and ugliness of the world.
I believe there is validity in the statement: political activism can reduce class division in American society. Bringing people together and uniting them under one cause can help to blur the lines separating classes. The less willing we are to be reserved and stay with denizens of our own classes, and the more we blend and accept that regardless of class we are all Americans, the marks that divide us will look increasingly obscure.
I think class division can have a very detrimental influence on society. The alienation of classes is one negative result. And I also believe the separation can cultivate animosity between classes, for example those of impoverished and affluent backgrounds. I can scarcely think of a beneficial aspect of class division, one that doesnt further distance the people of our nation.
