Should the US govenment issue a formal apology for slavery? How should the issue of slavery be taught in schools? What do you think should be done about slavery in the modern world?

The Goverment should make an apology speech for slavery in the past. I think it would make the black communities feel like they are appreciated even more in this nation. I think the subject should be taught very seriously not beating around a bush. They should show teh kids vdeos or documentaries of how brutal slavery was and how the slaves were tortured with back breaking work and insane beatings.
Slvaey in teh modern world needs to be brought to an end. It makes me sick reading about how in asia kids are kidnapped and thrown on the street or in brothels to have sex with 40 year old men so teh master can make a profit. Do they have no Souls.. really. ANd in Arabia they house little kids to be tehre camel jockies and if tehy are too heavy or lose a race they will beat them senceless. The World really need to realize how serious the matter is.

* Oprah WInfrey=Influential Talk show host
* Deval Patrick= 1st Black Govener of Massachusetts
* Barak Obama= running to be teh 1st Black President of the USA.

But White people run teh majority of teh country govermental wise. that i agree

nicholai dont you think the statement will make it easier if the do apoligize to make a lot of people feel better because a lot of things that happen in the U.S. are racist and the goverment has a lot to do with that because a lot of things are mest up and need to be fixed.

I think slavery should have never existed. I think it's too late to apologize now after all those poor black people who suffered back in the 1800's. The people aren't around anymore, and that happen so long ago so there would be no point of the government apologizing now because it should have never happened. The issue of slavery should be taught as a lesson, and big mistake of history. Their should be a no slavery law, and whoever is found slaving someone should be prosecuted.

Donald, I agree that an apology for slavery would really make a statement in this country and help it move toward more of a feeling of equality.
