Post 10 of the most important events in the decade assigned. Explain each briefly (descriptively and in context of other events, individuals and issues of that time).
March 18, 1940- Axis Powers, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini meet at Brener Pass in the Alps and agree to form an alliance against France and the United Kingdom.
April 7, 1940- Booker T. Washington becomes the first African American to be depicted on a US postage stamp.
The 1940's were dominated by World War II. European artists and intellectuals fled Hitler and the Holocaust, bringing new ideas created in disillusionment. War production pulled us out of the Great Depression. Women were needed to replace men who had gone off to war, and so the first great exodus of women from the home to the workplace began. Rationing affected the food we ate, the clothes we wore, the toys with which children played. After the war, the men returned, having seen the rest of the world. No longer was the family farm an ideal; no longer would blacks accept lesser status. The GI Bill allowed more men than ever before to get a college education. Women had to give up their jobs to the returning men, but they had tasted independence.
I don't know if anyone has already posted some of my facts because I just scanned the page but here's what I have..

The end of WWI ended may have resulted in the entire destruction of Japanese cities and the European countries in shambles. However, the US completely thrived off of the war. The economy boomed meraculously and the unemployment rate from the Great Depression almost entirely disappeared. Women began to play a larger role in society, after men left their jobs leaving businesses and many other jobs for women to run. The war benefitted the US in the long run from 1845 and even through the 60s

i thought the lend lease program was only with britan! why did we do it with the ussr?
We used the Lend-Lease policy with not only Britain and the USSR, but we also used it with China, France and other nations that we were allied with during the war.
We sent about 1,981 trains to the USSR because they were so dependent on trains, but since they were so desperate to produce weapons, they only made about 92 trains during the whole war. The Soviet air force was also almost completely dependent on US supplies of high octane aviation fuel. And although most Red Army tank units were equipped with Soviet-built tanks, their logistical support was provided by hundreds of thousands of US-made trucks. By 1945 nearly two-thirds of the truck strength of the Red Army was US-built. US supplies of telephone cable, aluminium, and canned rations were also critical to the USSR.
The reason we were so involved in helping the USSR was that many Americans were sympathetic to the idea of "unconditional aid" to the Soviet Union and it wasn't until later that Americans began to object to helping out the Soviet Union.
1941 - The Japanese attacked the U.S. base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7th. The next day, President Roosevelt announced a declaration of war against Japan. Japanese allies Italy & Germany declared war on the U.S.
1943 - The "WACS" the Women's Army Corps was organized. Other branches of the service formed similar organizations.
1944 - DDT was developed to wipe out lice, which had been carrying typhus among the troops of the Allied Forces.
